Outreach Initiatives
CIAN is committed to creating and carrying out CIAN-wide pre-college outreach programs that entice the youth of today to study the scientific fields needed for photonics research and careers and tackles the challenges often involved in attracting students to STEM-related fields.
More specifically, CIAN is committed to the concept of the STEM pipeline, the system by which students become inspired by STEM topics at an early age, are encouraged by informed teachers(RET), and are motivated (Young Scholars) to pursue higher education (Undergraduate Research) and careers in STEM.
CIAN is working with students as they develop and move forward in their educational goals to guide them towards STEM when they might not consider it otherwise. CIAN programs such as EASIS, OSAYS, RET, Young Scholars, Teachers in Industry, REU and others will strengthen the pipeline for students to move forward in STEM and pursue STEM education and career.
